Introducing Spirii Point of Sale: AFIR-compliant payment terminals powered by Payter
It just got a whole lot easier to accept hassle-free contactless payments from drivers, keep on top of billing, and stay ahead of ever-changing EV legislation.
It’s vital that charging infrastructure continues to become widely available and as easy to use as possible. That’s the aim of recent legislative measures like AFIR – the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation – but it’s also our aim here at Spirii.
That’s why we’ve now partnered with Payter to offer simple, hardware-agnostic contactless payment terminals to our CPO partners.
Here’s everything you need to know about Spirii’s new Point of Sale proposition…
Payter + Spirii
Installing one of our Payter-powered contactless payment terminals makes the process of settling easier than ever, for any EV driver using your chargers. Each terminal can wirelessly link to one or more charging stations, providing users with everything they need to charge and pay without any surprises when it comes to cost.
Payter’s contactless payment system is fully compliant with both AFIR and Eichrect legislation, supporting contactless payments from Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, American Express, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and more.
Drivers using these terminals will be able to use a dynamic, on-terminal QR code to access receipts and billing information, all without having to dig around for charging apps or RFID codes. With Payter, EV drivers just need to tap to pay and head off on their way.
What is AFIR?
The Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation is a European directive designed to ensure adequate EV charging infrastructure across the continent, with frequent access to charging stations along major roadways and easy, hardware-agnostic contactless payment protocols.

What is Eichrect?
Also known as the German ‘calibration law’, Eichrect comprises several distinct measures designed to standardise pricing calibration for EV charging metres, as well as to provide drivers with full transparency about billing rates – before and after charging.
Spirii integration here means that your Point of Sale terminals will link seamlessly with Spirii Connect, meaning hassle-free registration and integration with existing billing flows, dynamic pricing, and more.
Our technology, your terminals
Spirii and Payter’s solution takes care of all the hard work for you, which means you can handle limitless customer payments without worrying about checking legislative boxes or staying on top of billing.
That’s because our Point of Sale tech is fully integrated with the Spirii ecosystem, letting you manage everything from tariffs, charge detail records, billing flows, and all other platform features efficiently.
But drivers won’t know that. That’s because our payment terminals are fully customisable with your branding.
We know how important it is for charge point operators to build a recognisable, trusted brand – it’s how you’ll grow a user base of loyal, happy customers who keep on coming back and who’ll make your chargers their default port of call.
That’s why we’ve made it simple to deploy payment terminals that represent your brand, with a visual identity that’s totally yours. Our technology, your branding. That’s what makes Spirii Point of Sale so powerful.
